Haken haken haken =)

Lately I haven't been giving my crochet hook a break. I've been crocheting these Flowery Purses.

The test crocheters are also working hard on the Flowery Purse. I will have to change a few things in the pattern. Because ofcourse I want to make sure the pattern will be clear enough, so that everyone will be able to crochet it. The plan is to have the pattern ready for sale at 7amitha.etsy.com by the end of June.

Weave in ends as you go!

Do you also always look forward to weave in all those loose ends when your crochet work is 'finished'? ...
I DON'T! =P Lately I've been crocheting a lot of flowery purses, using 7 different colors, which gave me almost forty ends to weave in at the end of each purse! Sigh...

I know that a lot of crocheters crochet over the loose ends (leaving the ends underneath the stitches), and then cut the thread. But that gives me the feeling that the ends are not very well secured. So that's why, after crocheting over the ends, I would later on also weave them in with a yarn needle, just to make sure they wouldn't go loose.

But last week I've figured out a new way, in which I do not only crochet over the ends, but also make sure that the ends are tightly secured at the same time, so that you won't have to do that with your yarn needle later on! And that saves you a lot of work at the end! =)

Below you'll find a step-by-step tutorial how to do this:

---

Crochet the stitch before the color change up to the point where you are about to pull through the last loop.

Use the new color to pull through the last loop. Leave about 20 cm at the beginning of the new thread (here: pink). Cut the old thread (here: blue) at about 20 cm.

Vervolgens haak je eerst één steek over de twee losse uiteinden.

Now you'll crochet one stitch over the two ends. (your ends will be underneath the stitch)

And here it comes! At the next stitch you'll secure the blue end.

Pull the yarn through, to get two loops on your hook.

With the blue thread you'll make a knot around the pink working thread. (not around the pink end!)

Pull the blue thread, to make the knot smaller. But don't pull too tight.

Finish the stitch as usual, crocheting over the pink end. (the pink end will be underneath the stitch)

At the next stitch you'll repeat the same thing. Except that now you'll make a knot with the pink end, and you'll crochet over the blue end.

Crochet about three stitches over both ends.

Weaving in ends this way is not completely invisible. You won't notice anything on the right side of your work. But you will be able to notice it a the wrong side. But, oh well, it's the wrong side anyway...

I repeat the above three times, to make sure everything is secured. At the end I crochet about ten stitches over both of the ends, before I cut them. Never cut the yarn right after a knot!

I wonder if there are more people who weave in their ends this way, and what your experiences are.
